A healthy baby girl was born in a Mariupol hospital on March 11, 2022, just days after her mother survived a Russian air strike at the maternity hospital where she was waiting to deliver the child. Ukrainian officials say three people were killed and 17 injured in the attack on the maternity hospital. Another pregnant mother and her unborn child were reportedly among those who died. Russian officials claimed the attack was a “staged provocation” meant to create anti-Russian sentiment in the West.
