The United Nations issued an appeal Tuesday for $1.7 billion in humanitarian aid to help those fleeing the war in Ukraine.
The coordinator for the UN Under-Secretary General for Human Affairs and Relief Martin Griffiths said the amount includes a “flash appeal” for $1.1 billion.
Griffiths said the money would be used to provide healthcare, food, sanitation, shelter and counselling for those who need it.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said Tuesday afternoon that 677,000 people had so far fled Ukraine, with the majority landing in Poland.
