European Union (EU) Foreign Minister Josep Borrell will address the media Monday after a meeting of European defence ministers on the Russian siege on Ukraine.

Ukrainian troops have continued to hold the capital city of Kyiv and other major strategic cities, while the Russians have faced stiff competition on the ground, in the air and financially -- with sanctions aiming to financially slow down their advance.

Amid the pushback from Ukraine and Western nations, Russian President Vladimir Putin has put his country's nuclear forces on high alert.

Meanwhile, the two sides are set to send delegations to meet on Monday at Ukraine's border with Belarus. The talks are the first since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Thursday.
