Fire broke out at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant near the Ukrainian city of Enerhodar on March 4, 2022, after a Russian attack hit the plant’s power unit, the facility’s spokesman said. Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba pleaded with Russian forces to halt their attack on Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. Ukrainian leaders warned of a disaster “10 times worse than Chernobyl” in the event of a reactor meltdown. Russia has intensified strikes across Ukraine as the invasion entered a second week.
