Borodyanka, a settlement in the northwest of the Kyiv provincial area was badly damaged following Russian shelling on March 2, 2022. Local residents have recounted the destruction with horror. Russian forces have been bombarding residential buildings since March 1. Burning houses, damaged buildings and destroyed vehicles can be seen in the town. Russian forces have yet to overthrow the Ukrainian government and thousands of Ukrainian troops and civilians have been reported as either dead or injured. International observers say around a million people have fled the country since the Russian invasion began.
