Russia-Ukraine conflict: EU, US, UK and Canada move to block access for some Russian banks to SWIFT

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Saturday that the European Union, in coordination with the U.S., U.K. and Canada, moved to block the access of certain Russian banks to the SWIFT international payment system as the latest sanction bout against Russia.
The measures, which will also include restrictions on the Russian central bank's international reserves, will be implemented in the coming days.
Cutting Russian banks out of the SWIFT system will stop them from conducting most of their financial transactions worldwide and effectively block Russian exports and imports, von der Leyen said.
