Trudeau attends welcome ceremony at Williams Lake First Nation, meets with elders | FULL
CA, 30 Mar 2022
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived at Williams Lake, B.C. on Wednesday, where he was greeted with a welcome ceremony and met with the Indigenous community's elders, and notably Williams Lake First Nation Chief Willie Sellars.
Members of the community gave Trudeau and Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller gifts, such as a traditional drum.
The visit comes about two months after Williams Lake First Nation found 93 possible burial sites around the former St. Joseph's Mission Residential School. The "reflections" or anomalies were detected by ground-penetrating radar, indicating the possible burial sites.
Excavation is required to confirm whether they are human remains.
