Alberta health minister provides COVID-19 update | LIVE

CA, 31 Mar 2022
Alberta health minister Jason Copping will provide a weekly update on COVID-19 in the province on Wednesday.

During last week's update, the province's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced that there were 956 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 56 of whom where being treated in ICUs.

She said, on average, there were five COVID-related deaths a day in Alberta. The people who died were between 54 and 94 years old.

Hinshaw also announced that the Omicron subvariant BA.2 had become the dominant COVID-19 strain in the province.

This comes as experts say Canada is heading towards a potential sixth COVID-19 wave, as cases and hospitalizations have started to creep back up again across the country.
