Africa Weekly: The problem of water in Cape Town's townships

AFP, 29 Mar 2022
This week in Africa, Cape Town's dams are full and a water crisis has been averted. But residents can't access water in a city township, a striking sign in the world's most unequal country. In the camp of Tadress, in Western Niger's "three borders" zone, people who fled recurrent jihadist attacks try to build a new life. In the easter Democratic Republic of the Congo layers of plastic waste block the turbines of the region's largest hydroelectric power station. The Ruzizi Dam attracts thousands of bottles, cans and other rubbish thrown into Lake Kivu, which stretches for 90 km along the border with Rwanda.
