Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England, has given evidence to the Health and Social Care Committee on the latest findings about the new Omicron variant, including transmissibility, severity of illness, and vaccine effectiveness.

Last night Boris Johnson said that the public should “think carefully” before attending any social gatherings, marking a stark shift in tone, while Prof Whitty said "don't mix with people you don't have to". Their warnings led to accusations that the Government was introducing "lockdown by stealth".
