Chinese President Xi Jinping chaired a virtual summit commemorating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and five Central Asian countries. It is the first meeting between China and the five heads of state of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
President Xi said China wants to work toward building a closer community with Central Asia, one with a shared future. The five leaders said they look forward to attending the Beijing Winter Olympics opening ceremony next week, adding that China will overcome the recent COVID-19 outbreak and host a successful Winter Games.
