South Korea’s daily coronavirus case count has been on the rise in recent weeks despite strict mitigation restrictions imposed. To curb the rapidly spreading Omicron variant, the government announced an extension of the social distancing rules imposed on December 18, 2021 for another three weeks, now ending on February 6. The move sparked outrage from more than 200 small business owners in Seoul. Shaving their heads in protest, they urged the government to lift the curbs, including the 9pm curfew for restaurants, cafes and bars, and to compensate them for financial losses.
