The Taliban has been seen patrolling in the Afghan city of Bamiyan, at a site where monumental Buddha statues once stood. The relics were destroyed over 20 years ago by the hardline group, maintaining that it was in keeping with the Islamic ban on idolatry. Many fear that following the return to Taliban rule, the country’s culture and heritage are once again at risk of further destruction.
