Newfoundland and Labrador welcomes 1st Canadian airlift of Ukrainians
CA, 11 May 2022
Through Canada's first government-sponsored flight for people fleeing Russia's war in Ukraine, hundreds of people have now arrived in Newfoundland and Labrador.
This first-of-its-kind airlift cost an estimated $350,000, including on-the-ground logistics. It's a reward on another investment almost two months ago, when the province opened an office in Poland to help displaced Ukrainians relocate.
Global’s Ross Lord reports on how Premier Andrew Furey offered them a warm welcome, what their emergency travel visa offers and what kind of health coverage they'll receive.
