Former U.S. marine Trevor Reed began his journey home on Wednesday after he was released from Russian prison as part of a prisoner swap.

Reed was released in exchange for Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko.

Reed had been convicted in Russia in 2019 for endangering the lives of two police officers while drunk on a visit to Moscow, but U.S. officials called the trial a “theatre of the absurd."

Upon learning of their son’s release, Trevor’s parents said they believed President Joe Biden “saved our son’s life.” However, they urged the U.S. to work to free other Americans imprisoned in Russia and elsewhere.

White House p[ress secretary Jen Psaki said their “overriding priority” was Reed’s return as his health condition “required urgent treatment.”
