A gunman remains on the loose after 16 people were injured including 10 with gunshot wounds in a rush hour shooting on the platform of a New York city subway on Tuesday morning.
Five of those shot are in a critical condition, according to officials, though none of their injuries are "life-threatening".
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) announced at least 16 people have been injured. At least 11 of the injured have been hospitalised for treatment.
The FDNY said it responded to reports of smoke and discovered the gunshot victims at the station in the Sunset Park neighbourhood of Brooklyn.
Police officers told local news outlets that a man wearing a gas mask and dressed in clothing that resembled that of a subway construction worker, including a green vest, threw an unknown device and opened fire on passengers.
Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell told a press conference: "This is not being treated as an act of terror at this time."
