Trudeau highlights budget spending on infrastructure for electric vehicles in Canada | FULL

CA, 12 Apr 2022
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau touted the benefits of the latest federal budget on Monday, highlighting spending on infrastructure for electric vehicles (EV) during a visit to Victoria, B.C.

Last week’s federal budget placed an emphasis on transitioning to the green economy, which includes expanding the availability of zero-emission vehicles and charging stations.

The federal government added a goal last week that one in five new cars sold will be zero emissions by 2026, and by 2030, the target is 60 per cent.

About five per cent of vehicles sold in the first nine months of 2021 were battery-electric or plug-in hybrids, compared with about three per cent in both 2020 and 2019.

Canada needs to quadruple those sales in the next four years to hit the first target in 2026.
