London police detonate suspicious vehicle in Trafalgar Square, say it was "controlled explosion"
CA, 04 Jun 2022
A "large bang" could be heard in London's Trafalgar Square on Saturday morning as police detonated a suspicious vehicle, though officers called it a "controlled explosion."
"You heard a bang, it wasn’t necessarily a device but we have to do it that way. So that’s what the large bang was," a London Metropolitan Police officer told reporters.
What made police suspicious of the vehicle is not yet clear. Trafalgar Square is near where thousands gathered only two days ago for the Trooping the Colour parade marking the Queen's birthday. Crystal Goomansingh reports on what we know.
