The High Commissioner of Pakistan, Zaheer Janjua, will provide an update to media on the catastrophic flooding situation hitting the country that left more than 1,150 people dead and affected more than 33 million people.

The monsoon rains have been pouring down for the past eight weeks, since June, devastating a country already trying to revive a struggling economy.

More than one million homes have been damaged or destroyed in the past two-and-a-half months, displacing millions of people, with about a half million living in organized camps and others having to find their own shelter.

The United Nations and Pakistan issued an appeal Tuesday for $160 million in emergency funding to help the millions impacted.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the floods had destroyed crops and his government was considering importing wheat to avoid any shortage amid the worst flooding in history. A national emergency has also been declared.
