Fisherwomen in Fiji say they are struggling to harvest seaweed, a staple food in the island nation locally known as nama. People in the South Pacific archipelago often eat seaweed raw or with chilli. But the aquatic plant is vulnerable to heat, and rising sea temperatures blamed on climate change have taken a toll. Many of the fisherwomen say that their daily harvest has halved to about 10kg (22lbs) of what it was in previous years. The reduced haul now only brings in about US$20 a day.
