Firefighters seek to tame wildfires in southwest France amid hopes for more rain • FRANCE 24
FRANCE24, 14 Aug 2022
A forest fire that flared anew in southern France sent 1,000 more people fleeing while overnight rain brought blazes elsewhere in the country under control, officials said on Sunday.
Firefighters working to contain blazes in southwest France continued ‘soaking operations’ on Sunday using water and chemical retardants to wet the soil in high-risk areas and prevent the spread of underground fire.
Yes despite efforts from firefighters and the respite offered by cooler weather, the situation remains volatile. “Authorities have said it’s not over yet,” said FRANCE 24’s Luke Shrago reporting from Gironde, France. “What we really need is several more days of rain.”
