Nuclear watchdog briefs UN Security Council on situation at Zaporizhzya nuclear plant | LIVE

CA, 12 Aug 2022
The United Nations (UN) Security Council will meet on Thursday to discuss threats to international peace and security.

Russia has asked for a meeting on the situation in the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine. The chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi will be briefing.

Canada and other G7 nations are demanding Russian forces hand back control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to Ukraine.

In a statement, they say Russia's occupation of the site raises the risk of a nuclear accident, and it comes as reports emerge claiming that Ukraine was responsible for that series of large explosions in Russian-occupied Crimea on Tuesday.
