A Russian ammunition storage unit in Crimea exploded on August 16, 2022, injuring two people and forcing more than 3,000 to be evacuated. The Kremlin has blamed the incident on “sabotage”, rarely admitting that there are forces loyal to Ukraine in the Ukrainian territory Russia annexed in 2014.. Kyiv did not publicly claim responsibility, but officials hinted at the country’s involvement. The depot blasts followed explosions in a Crimean airbase that destroyed several Russian warplanes last week. Moscow called the airbase explosions an accident.
