Poilievre responds to PM Trudeau's plan to tackle inflation | LIVE
CA, 14 Sep 2022
Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre is expected to respond to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's plan to tackle inflation and the cost of living that was announced earlier Tuesday.
Trudeau said his government planned to roll out a six-month boost to the GST tax credit, a dental benefit for some children, and a one-time top up to the Canada Housing Benefit — all totalling $4.5 billion.
In his first speech to the Conservative caucus Monday since securing the leadership, Poilievre demanded that Trudeau not raise taxes “on workers and seniors.”
Poilievre was elected leader of the Conservative Party of Canada with a resounding first-ballot victory, garnering 68 per cent support.
Poilievre told members that under his leadership the Tories would “work with any party” but said he would “not support any new tax increases.”
During his speech to members, Poilievre also highlighted the increasing cost of living facing many Canadians as they contend with rising inflation.
