Pierre Poilievre favoured within Conservative party, but not among Canadians, new poll says
CA, 06 Sep 2022
The Conservative leadership race is set to come to a close on Saturday with a possible decision on the first ballot. Pierre Poilievre holds a strong lead among party voters deciding who will lead them into the next federal election.
Ipsos polling exclusively for Global News found he holds 57 per cent of support among Conservative Party members, while his main rival Jean Charest has a favourable 38 per cent.
But while Poilievre may be a shoe-in for the leadership, the polling showed that Canadians have a different view of him leading the country, with Poilievre only holding 23 per cent of support, whereas Charest holds 31 per cent.
