Ontario Premier Doug Ford is in Niagara Falls, Ont., on Friday to make an announcement alongside Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney.

Earlier this week, Ford met with his East Coast counterparts in the Maritimes to discuss health care in Canada. In Ontario, emergency rooms have been forced to close, in some cases for days at a time, because of the strain staffing shortages are putting on the health-care system.

At a joint news conference on Monday, the premiers said governments need to take a "team Canada" approach to fixing the problems with the health-care system, and that they should turn to nurses, doctors and heads of hospitals to find possible solutions.

Last week, the province unveiled a strategy to ease the pain in the system, which includes freeing up beds in long-term care facilities and hospitals, hiring thousands of new health-care workers and making investments in independent and private clinics.
