Protesters in Bangkok performed a ritual curse during rallies on August 23, 2022, demanding that Thailand’s prime minister step down for exceeding his term limit. Prayuth Chan-ocha faces mounting pressure from political opponents and activists who say he should quit after staying in office beyond an eight-year constitutional limit for prime ministers. Prayuth formally became prime minister August 24, 2014, in a military coup that ousted an elected government.
