CA, 27 Sep 2022
Canadian federal ministers are expected to speak with reporters on Tuesday about the ongoing disaster response to post-tropical storm Fiona and its impact on Atlantic Canada.

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc, Defence Minister Anita Anand, Indigenous Services Minister Patty Hajdu, National Revenue Minister Diane Lebouthillier, Natural Resources Minister Seamus O'Regan, and Rural Economic Development Minister Gudie Hutchings will be in attendance.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday he will travel to the Atlantic Canada regions impacted by post-tropical storm Fiona this week, adding that he would make the trip “as soon as possible.” According to his official itinerary, he will be travelling to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia on Tuesday.

Trudeau said Monday the Canadian military had arrived in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, where members will assist in the removal of debris and restoration of the power grid.

Anand said 100 Canadian military personnel are available “per province” to assist in recovery efforts, adding that personnel were being activated in response to a request from Newfoundland and Labrador. She said HMCS Margaret Brooke is sailing to the province, where it will conduct welfare checks on Tuesday in four communities on the south coast.
