One more missing sailor was rescued early on July 4, 2022, two days after rescue teams from Hong Kong and mainland China managed to pluck three crew members to safety as their ship split in two and started to sink as Typhoon Chaba passed nearby. The storm was the third of the year in the area and first to affect Hong Kong, which had issued a No 8 storm warning signal the evening before the incident. Four fixed-wing aircraft and six rescue helicopters from Hong Kong made runs to the area about 300km (186 miles) southwest of the city during the rescue effort. The engineering vessel “Fujing001” had 30 people on board, and on July 4 Hong Kong officials said the chances of survival were “very slim” for crew members still missing.
