Canadian officials are expected to announce Tuesday that the COVID-19 vaccine mandates for domestic travel on planes and trains from Canada will be suspended starting Wednesday.

According to reports, the mandates will also be dropped for outgoing international travel. However, foreign nationals coming to Canada will still be required to be vaccinated.

The move comes as some in the travel industry push for an end to the mandates, blaming some of the chaos at airports like Toronto Pearson International Airport on the requirement. In recent weeks, Pearson has seen long lines resulting in delays and, in some cases, people missing flights. Government officials have blamed the problems on staffing shortages, but some industry groups and politicians are pointing the finger at the mandates.

Last week, Canada suspended its mandatory random COVID-19 testing at airports, but there have still been calls to go further.
