Russia tells Ukraine to end ‘senseless resistance’ and lay down arms in fight for Sievierodonetsk

Russia called early June 15, 2022, for Ukraine’s military to lay down arms and stop “senseless resistance” in the intense battle for control of Sievierodonetsk. Russian troops started shelling the city in eastern Ukraine soon after Moscow’s invasion of the country started on 28 February. By mid-June, Russian forces had gained control of most of Sievierodonetsk and cut off all but one of the routes to and from the city. Ukrainian officials say more than 500 civilians are trapped alongside soldiers in the Azot chemical plant in the city.
