Indian emergency workers have rescued a 10-year-old boy who had been trapped in a narrow well for more than four days. Rahul Sahu, who has hearing and speech impairments, fell down the 24-metre (80 feet) well while playing in the backyard of his house in the state of Chhattisgarh in central India. Local officials said severe weather and venomous snakes and scorpions unearthed as workers dug a tunnel to free the boy made the operation much more difficult. An official said the boy “was alive, but weak” when rushed to a nearby hospital after his rescue late in the day on June 14, 2022.
