COVID-19: Canadian officials hold briefing after Moderna vaccine approved for kids under 5 | LIVE

CA, 14 Jul 2022
Health Canada is expected to give an update on Thursday on the approval of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine, including advice from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI).

Health Canada has approved Moderna‘s COVID-19 vaccine for infants and preschoolers, making the vaccine the first of its kind approved for that age group in the country.

Nearly 50 per cent of the Canadian population has received a third dose of COVID-19 vaccines, and fourth doses are now open for those 18-59 years old in Ontario as a summer wave of the virus is being fuelled by Omicron subvariants.

As the virus mutates, Pfizer and Moderna are currently testing in late-stage clinical trials an updated version of their COVID-19 vaccines to better target the Omicron variant and its sub-lineages.

Both companies are hoping for their variant-adapted vaccine to be ready for approval in the fall.
