In full: Keir Starmer speaks after avoiding fine over Beergate lockdown gathering
Telegraph, 08 Jul 2022
Sir Keir Starmer has not been fined over the so-called "beergate gathering", Durham Police have announced.
Following a six-week investigation the force said there was "no case to answer" over claims Sir Keir and Angela Rayner had broken coronavirus rules.
Sir Keir, who had repeatedly called on Boris Johnson to resign over partygate, said he would resign if fined.
The Labour leader had denied any wrongdoing when it emerged he drank beer and ate a takeaway curry with colleagues in April 2021 at a time when most indoor gatherings were banned.
