Restrictions to fight the spread of Covid-19 are being gradually eased in the Chinese capital Beijing after a recent outbreak was reportedly brought under control, allowing people in most districts of the city to return to work from June 6, 2022. But to use public transport, commuters must now show proof of a negative coronavirus test done within the previous 72 hours. To speed up the process, authorities have upgraded ticket gates for both buses and subways with equipment that can recognise a passenger’s “health code" which most people keep on their mobile phones.
