Pride Parade returns to Brazil streets for 2SLGBTQQIA+ celebrations after 2 years | LIVE

CA, 19 Jun 2022
Thousands are expected to celebrate 2SLGBTQQIA+ rights in São Paulo on Sunday as Brazil holds its annual Pride Parade in person for the first time in two years.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrations have been held online for the past two-year period. This year, 19 cars are expected to be part of the parade, featuring the participation of a variety of artists and musicians.

Despite hosting one of the world's largest pride parades, Brazil continues to be the country with the highest number of murders in the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, seeing one death every 29 hours. According to the Grupo Gay Bahia, a gay rights organization in Brazil, 300 violent deaths were reported in 2021, an 8 per cent increase from the previous year.

The theme of the 26th Parade is “Vote with Pride — for a policy you represent” and aims to reaffirm the commitment of the LGBTQIA+ community to combatting discrimination and respecting diversity.
