Protesters from Just Stop Oil are climbing motorway signs on the M25 and causing disruption in response to the extreme temperatures in the UK and what they describe as the Government's "inadequate preparations" for climate change.

Five protesters have climbed gantries which support overhead motorway signs in three places on the M25, causing police to close sections of the road.

The M25 was closed for several hours both ways between junctions 14 and 15 due to the protests but has since reopened. Junction 14 serves Heathrow airport and junction 15 feeds on to the M4.

Demonstrators have climbed signs at junction 10 eastbound near Cobham, Surrey, and at the Poyle interchange in Heathrow between junctions 14 and 15.

The environmental protest group said more members are on their way, as part of planned action between Wednesday and Friday.
